Bridges News The Louisville-Southern Indiana Bridges Authority will hold its fourth public meeting this Thursday, April 8 at 10 a.m. at Indiana University Southeast University Center North, Hoosier Room, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany (take the second entrance into the campus for easy parking access). If you are interested in attending, you can access directions here. On the agenda: A presentation from FHWA officials on finance options. The Authority is also expected to consider a request for proposals for a technical and financial advisor as it continues developing the project's Finance Plan.
Conexus Indiana, a statewide logistics initiative in Indiana,
released a plan last week for making the state a destination for
logistics businesses and jobs. The plan, among other recommendations,
calls for completion of the Bridges Project. Business First and other
media in the region and throughout Indiana reported on the plan, with
Conexus board member and former Coalition member Kerry Stemler serving
as a spokesperson. Read more
The Louisville-Southern Indiana Bridges Authority is authorized to take official actions under legislation signed into law by Governor Steve Beshear. The legislation - SJR 169 -
states: "The General Assembly does hereby ratify the Bi-State Authority
created for the purpose of financing, constructing, and operating the
Louisville - Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project.....Whereas
the planning for and construction of the proposed Ohio River bridges is
of immediate concern and there is a need for the proposed Bi-State
Authority to take immediate action, an emergency is declared to exist,
and this Resolution takes effect upon its passage and approval by the
Governor or upon its otherwise becoming law." The resolution, sponsored
by Senate President David Williams with Jefferson County's senate
delegation as co-sponsors, won overwhelmingly approval from the
Kentucky Senate and House.
